If the account is active but the money is missing

Family deposits use a different timeline

Match the missing money to the responsible organization

The IRS determines the election, the account administrator handles activation and account display, an employer controls its payroll benefit, and a foundation or state program controls its own eligibility and schedule. Contacting the wrong organization can produce a correct but unhelpful answer. Before escalating, identify which deposit is missing, who promised it, the eligibility source, and whether the account was active by the required date.

Keep the election approval, activation confirmation, account number with sensitive digits masked, sponsor notice, and any promised deposit date. Compare the transaction history with the account summary because a deposit may appear under a sponsor or program name rather than the label a family expects.
