Summary
You can use every tool on this site without creating an account, entering your name, or sharing your email. If you voluntarily sign up for email updates, we collect the email address and limited signup context described below. Calculator inputs, birth years, contribution amounts, and ZIP codes are processed entirely in your browser and are never included in an email signup.
Email updates and contact forms
If you choose to sign up for email updates, we send your email address to Formspree so it can process and store the submission and notify us. We also include the page where you signed up, the referring page, signup time, language, and any UTM campaign parameters in the page URL. If you use the editorial contact form, Formspree receives the name you provide, your email address, the optional page URL, and your message. We use contact submissions only to respond to the message, investigate corrections, and maintain an internal record of the issue. Formspree may also process technical information such as your IP address and browser type for security and service operation under Formspree’s privacy policy. Signing up and contacting us are optional, and you can unsubscribe from updates at any time using the instructions in an email or by replying to it.
Analytics
With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate site usage, which pages are visited, roughly where visitors come from, and how the site performs. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar identifiers and processes data (including truncated IP information and device details) on Google's servers under Google's privacy policy. We also use Microsoft Clarity, which records session interactions (clicks, scrolls, page movement) and heatmaps to help us improve usability; Clarity uses cookies and processes data under Microsoft’s privacy statement. Neither analytics service loads unless you accept analytics cookies. You can reject them and still use every site feature. We do not intentionally include calculator inputs, names, or email addresses in analytics events.
When another website displays one of our embedded reports, the embed may use that website’s hostname and page path to attribute visits from links in the report. Query parameters and URL fragments from the embedding page are not collected by this feature.
Calculator inputs stay on your device
All calculator math runs client-side in your browser. When a ZIP field is empty, the site may request a coarse, best-guess postal code from IPWhois.io using the IP address already visible to that service. We do not request precise GPS location, send calculator inputs with this request, or store the estimated ZIP on our servers. The estimate is kept only in session storage, never replaces a ZIP you entered, and may be inaccurate. Our tools also request two static data files (ZIP income estimates and the sponsor list), which are the same for every visitor.
Advertising
If this site displays advertising through Google AdSense, Google and other third-party vendors may place and read cookies on your browser, or use web beacons, IP addresses, and similar identifiers to collect information as a result of ad serving on this site. Google and its partners may use that information to serve and measure ads, including ads based on prior visits to this or other websites. Read how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. You can manage personalized advertising in My Ad Center. Visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland will be shown a Google-certified consent dialog before advertising cookies are used. Advertising never affects our content or calculations.
Third-party links
We link to government websites (IRS.gov, Treasury.gov, the official federal enrollment portal) and other primary sources. Their privacy practices are their own; this policy covers only this site.
Children
This site is written for parents and adult contributors. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The email signup is intended for adults.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
